As the New Year began, Tammy was experiencing abdominal pain that was becoming uncomfortable. She went to see her doctor on Monday, January 5, 2009. As her stomach began to swell, it was apparent that she would need to have her gall bladder removed. Later that night, the pain increased and her husband, Mark, took her to the emergency room. They admitted her into the hospital and removed her gall bladder on Tuesday. After several tests throughout the week including an ultrasound and biopsy on her lymph nodes, it was discovered that she had lymphoma.
On Friday, January 9th, she was moved to St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri to be closer to her doctor and a hospital that was fully equipped. The pathology report stated the specific type of lymphona is Non-Hodgkins Large B-Cell Burkitt lymphoma. This is a very aggressive type of lymphoma, however it is also curable in many cases--Thank God! Tammy was informed that she would begin chemotherapy the week of January 12, 2009.
And now Tammy's journey begins...
